Über den Club
Three courts on the sand at Santa Monica, open play every day and coaching from your first rally to the elite squad. Nineteen weekly groups, two club tournaments a year and a summer camp. This page is a live demonstration of a Beachmates club site.

Three courts at the end of the bay
Sunset Bay Beach Arena is ours: three full size courts on the sand, floodlights until nine, showers, a shaded lounge and parking twenty metres away.
The nets go up at seven in the morning and they stay up. Members book a court from the app, drop into an open play band, or come to their weekly group. Nothing here is a stock photo: this is the view from the clubhouse steps.

I turned up on a Monday evening having never touched a beach ball. Two seasons later I play G3 and I run the Sunday social group. Nobody here makes you feel like a beginner, they just put you on the right court. Before you join
How are the levels organised?
Competitive groups run from G1 down to G5, separately for men and women. G1 is the elite squad, the players you see on the podium of regional tournaments. G2 plays a full match with a plan, serves with intent and covers the block. G3 is a strong club player, quick on defence, with a reliable side out. G4 keeps a rally alive and plays a real game. G5 is your first season on sand: the serve, the pass, and how a rally is built. Alongside them, Mixed Social Cobras, Beginners Koalas and Lunch Crew Pelicans are open to every level, and the beach fitness series (Morning Beach, Yoga Beach, Cardio Beach, Muscle Beach, Beach Lunch) needs no volleyball at all. If you have no idea where you sit, come to one session and the coach will tell you.
Do I need my own kit?
No. Balls, nets, lines and antennae are ours and they stay on site. Bring shorts, a cap, water and sunscreen, and play barefoot. If you want your own ball for solo practice the club shop sells the match model at cost price to members.
What happens if the weather turns?
We play in wind and light rain, that is part of beach volleyball. A session is only cancelled for a storm warning or lightning, and you get a notification the moment the coach calls it, with the make up date. Cancelled sessions never count against your membership.
How do I join a weekly group?
Pick the group at your level on the Classes tab and ask to join. The coach confirms your place, usually within a day, and you keep that slot for the season. Groups are capped so that everyone plays: eight to twenty players depending on the format. When a group is full you go on the list and we open a second slot as soon as there are enough of you.
Can I bring a guest?
Yes, twice per season, free. Sign them up on the open play band of your choice so the coach knows how many nets to put up. Guests play under the club insurance for those two sessions; after that they join like everyone else.
Where do I park, and how do I find the courts?
Free parking sits right behind the dune, twenty metres from court one, and there is a bike rack by the clubhouse. Showers, changing rooms and a shaded lounge are on site. Follow the boardwalk to the north end of the bay, the floodlights are visible from the road.
