Venues and courts

How to find a spot, add the ones missing from the map, and draw your courts exactly where the sand is.

Find a venue

Everything starts on the map of Find a venue: the venues around a reference point, with the open slots at each one.

Radius

Pick 10, 25, 50 or 100 km around your reference point. 50 km is the default, and your choice is remembered on this device.

Search a place

Search a venue, a city, a country or any place. A search moves the map without moving you: Back to near me returns to your own perimeter. Use my location asks for your position once, never in the background.

The list and its photos

Next to the map, every venue is listed with its number of courts and its upcoming slots, plus a photo thumbnail as soon as the venue has one.

Favourites

The star on a venue saves it to your favourites, and your favourite venues get their own block at the top of the list. You need to be signed in to save one.

Add a venue that is missing

Any signed in player can put a missing spot on the map. The Add a venue button sits at the bottom left of the map on Find a venue.

1

Name the spot

Keep the Permanent venue tab, then fill in the name, the city and the country. The Public venue switch says whether anyone can play there or whether access is restricted.

2

Drop your courts

Press Add court, then tap the map where the court is. Repeat for each one: they are numbered Court 01, Court 02, and each draft court has its own orientation control. At least one court is required.

3

Save

Save venue creates the venue with its courts. The map zooms straight to it, and everything can be adjusted later from the venue page.

Or a temporary spot

Bringing your own net? The Temporary spot tab creates a spot you alone manage, one time or recurring, shown on the map only during its time window.

Place your courts on the sand

Courts are drawn to scale on the map, so a court placed properly matches the real footprint of the sand. Here is the exact sequence on a venue page.

1

Open edit mode

On the venue page, press Edit at the top right of the cover photo. The button only shows if you are allowed to edit this venue. The Courts block moves up right under the form, and the map switches to editing.

2

Switch to satellite

The Satellite button at the top left of the map swaps the plain background for aerial imagery. That is the trick: you see the real sand, the lines and the nets, and you place your court right on top of them. Press Map to go back.

3

Add a court

Press Add court, either on the map or at the bottom of the Courts list. The banner Tap the map to place the new court appears, the cursor becomes a crosshair, and your next tap on the map creates the court there.

4

Move a court

In edit mode you can grab a court directly on the map and drag it onto the sand, with the mouse or with your finger. The shape follows you and the new position is saved when you let go. You can also tap a court in the list, then tap the map to send it to that point.

5

Turn it to the right angle

Each court in the list has an orientation slider from 0 to 180 degrees, with -15 and +15 buttons for precise steps and the current angle on the right. The court turns live on the map, so line it up with the real court under the satellite view.

6

Done

Position and orientation are saved as you go, there is nothing else to validate for the courts. Press Done to leave edit mode. Save only applies to the venue form itself (name, address, hours, amenities). A court that already has games assigned to it cannot be removed.

Why it matters

Numbered courts drawn in the right place let players say which court they are on, let a slot be attached to a precise court, and let a club plan court by court.

Photos, check in, who is playing

Photos

Any signed in player can add photos to a venue and set one as the cover of the page. Up to 6 MB per photo.

I'm on the courts

Checking in tells your mates you are on the sand. You choose how long, from 30 minutes to 12 hours, 2 hours by default, and you leave the list when it expires or when you check out. You can only be checked in at one venue at a time.

Check in anonymously

Stay anonymous shows that someone is here without showing who. The switch starts on your profile setting, and you can change it every single time you check in.

Who's playing now

The Who's playing now block lists the people currently checked in, plus those whose game is on at this spot right now. Anonymous people are counted, never named.

Claim your venue as a club

Claiming a venue is free. It is how a club, a school or a venue owner takes control of its own page.

1

Send the claim

On the venue page, You run this venue opens the claim form: your relation to the venue (owner, tenant, operator or resident club), a supporting document and your links. If you have no club yet, the form takes the name of your organisation and the club is created when the claim is approved.

2

Our team reviews it

The venue shows the claim as under review while our team checks it. Reviews take a few days.

3

Verified venue

Once approved, the venue carries the Verified badge and your club manages the listing: description, photos, opening hours, amenities, prices and a link to your own website.

Who can edit what

Public venue, not claimed

Public spots work like a wiki: any signed in player can fix the details and the courts. Signing in is required, an anonymous visitor changes nothing.

Private venue

A venue marked private can be edited by the player who created it and by the admins of the club attached to it.

Verified venue

As soon as a venue is verified, editing is locked to the admins of the club that runs it. The wiki stops there, and the claim button disappears.

Temporary spot

A temporary spot belongs to the player who created it, who is the only one to manage it. It cannot be claimed.

The Beachmates team can edit any venue, to fix imported data and handle reports.
